How to Play

Overview

MafiaDeck is a game of deception, strategy, and survival. Players are secretly assigned roles belonging to one of two factions: the informed minority (Mafia) and the uninformed majority (Town).

The Mafia's goal is to eliminate Town members until they equal or outnumber them. The Town's goal is to identify and eliminate all Mafia members.

Game Phases

The game alternates between two main phases:

  • Night Phase: Mafia members secretly choose a player to eliminate. Other roles with night actions (like Doctor or Detective) also perform their abilities.
  • Day Phase: Players discuss who they suspect is Mafia. This phase usually involves accusations, defenses, and eventually, a vote to eliminate a player.

Core Roles

  • Mafia: Knows who fellow Mafia members are. Votes to kill one player each night.
  • Townsfolk (Civilian): Has no special abilities. Goal is to find and vote out the Mafia.
  • Doctor: Can choose one player to protect each night. If the Mafia targets the protected player, that player survives.
  • Detective (Sheriff): Can choose one player to investigate each night to learn their alignment (Mafia or not Mafia).

More roles might be available depending on the game setup.

Voting

During the Day phase, after discussion, players vote to lynch (eliminate) a suspect. The player with the most votes is eliminated from the game and their role is revealed. Eliminated players can no longer participate but can observe the game.

Winning the Game

  • The Town wins when all Mafia members have been eliminated.
  • The Mafia wins when their numbers are equal to or greater than the remaining Town members, or when nothing can prevent this from occurring.
